After-School Climbing Club
After-School Climbing Club provides a fun, safe, and low-pressure arena for kids to experience the challenging world of climbing week by week!
Our experienced instructors are passionate about sharing their individual love of climbing with the next generation, guiding and supporting them as they become part of the fabric of our community.
Is your child interested in learning technique, intentionally working on their climbing skills, even being coached? Recreational Team or Community Comp Team may be a better fit! Learn more about these programs here.

FAQs
What should we bring?
Climbers should come every week with clothes they can move freely in, socks, a water bottle, and a snack. All other climbing gear is provided!
Do you meet when there’s no school?
No. After School does NOT meet during school vacation days.
In the case of missed sessions due to holidays or sickness, you may request a make-up day in another day’s session (pending availability) or one of our weekend youth programs (Kids’ Night Out or Weekend Climbing Club) by emailing bkyouth@metrorock.com. If two or more sessions are missed in a month due to scheduled holidays, you will receive 25% off that month.
Do you offer any discounts or financial aid?
Yes! For siblings, we offer a 5% discount for each membership.
We are also passionate about making our Youth Programs accessible and inclusive for all — especially those who have traditionally been underrepresented in the climbing community. We offer two tiers of financial assistance for teams and youth programming. For more information and to apply: Youth Program Financial Aid Application
What are the expectations for the participants?
Climbing is an incredibly fun and challenging sport! It is also inherently dangerous, which makes following the rules all the more important. We expect all campers to be attentive to the rules as they are laid out by the instructors, to listen to the instructors, to treat others with kindness, and to refrain from intentionally physically harmful or highly disruptive behavior.
The most important rules are as follows, and are always communicated clearly and consistently to all climbers:
No running: this ensures that climbers are best able to stay aware of their surroundings
Don’t pop “climbing bubbles”: folks on the wall always have the “right of way,” and it is each person’s responsibility to stay out of their “bubble” and keep a safe distance away from them
Stay on the black paths when not climbing: the black paths are clear walking areas around the bouldering area where one is considered “safe” from all climbing bubbles
Don’t play with the ropes: climbers must refrain from whipping, pulling, swinging on, or otherwise using the ropes in ways they are not intended
MetroRock has a 3-strike policy for unsafe or significantly disruptive behavior. Strike 1 is a verbal warning, strike 2 is a verbal warning followed by a talk with parents/guardians, strike 3 may result in sitting out of class, a call home for early pick-up and/or reevaluation of the climber’s ability to participate in youth programs.
What is your cancellation policy?
